As of last night the New York "C" hit a high of 266c/pound. In relation to traded commodities, coffee is not the only one that is surging in price, unfortunately the world recession is making food a great speculative choice.
Extra demand for specialty coffee is also coming from China, Brazil and India.

COFFEE PRICES CONTINUE TO RISE
We are in a major bull market that is taking coffee prices higher and higher. Over the last day or two the market has reached a mark of 220clb-- levels we have not seen since 1997.
Since June prices have increased by 60%, largely due to the Commodity Speculators and the sheer weakness of the US Dollar.
This has been partly off-set by a revaluation of the New Zealand Dollar of 9% and because the Coffee Market is being driven higher by Non Coffee People.
Below is a graph showing coffee price increases over the past 6 months.
